Biography

Valerie Beattie, Director of Aviatricks

Valerie first started training circus skills in 2001 while she was at university studying for something completely different! She then retrained full-time for 3 years to gain a Higher National Diploma in Professional Dance at Edinburgh’s Telford College. She is a qualified Pilates Matwork instructor and is listed on the Register of Exercise Professionals. Training she has completed includes workshops at the Greentop Circus Centre in Sheffield, the Edinburgh Aerial and Acrobatic Convention, the Netherlands Acrobatic Festival, and the de Hoogte Circus School in the Netherlands. She completed the Aerial Instructor Teacher Training Course run by the ground-breaking aerial dance company, Paper Doll Militia, and has increasingly enjoyed sharing her love of circus with all new circus enthusiasts through teaching regular classes and workshops for children and adults.

Since entering the circus world Valerie has enjoyed performing and teaching circus across Scotland and beyond. She loves her job as working in circus requires great adaptability and imagination. Formed in 2006, Aviatricks has coordinated and performed in two circus-themed weddings, enjoyed many repeat bookings from clients ranging from WHALE Arts Westerhailes to Moonwalk Scotland and the National Museum of Flight, and has managed a face painting team responsible for face-painting seven hundred zombies. Val and a colleague provided a team-building workshop for international business executives from Shell, on which they received the following feedback from some of the participants: “the best team building event I’ve been to and the event where I’ve had the most fun”. Aviatricks works with the best performers in Scotland to bring the unique joy of contemporary circus to enthralled audiences far and wide.
